Our Herbal Hair Masque starts with organic lavender and organic Bay Essential Oils for a true aromatherapy experience.

Organic Rosemary, Sage, Peppermint have been selected for their rubefacient (stimulating) qualities and have long been used by traditional herbalists to treat hair loss and improve the condition of the scalp.

Horsetail (the herb) is a natural hair conditioner and growth aid used to strengthen the hair. It is rich in silica which helps to strengthen weak, brittle and damaged hair – by filling in the damaged spots hair begins to look shinier and healthier over time. It’s stimulating properties help improve circulation locally, thereby nourishing the follicles.

Bamboo Extract is another silica rich ingredient and along with its protective, antioxidant properties it can help improve strength, sheen and elasticity of the hair. It is also thought to help address hair loss, shedding and thinning and increase hair growth.

Nettle Leaf is another herb traditionally used to treat hair loss, it can be drunk as a tea or massaged into the scalp here it also aids in hair re-growth as it is rich in silica and sulphur. It can also help make hair shinier and healthier.

Often considered a “protein shake for your locs”, Seaweed is rich in fatty acids, minerals and vitamins which help strengthen and promote thicker hair. According to “Alive: Canadian Journal of Health & Nutrition,” omega-3 fatty acids feed hair follicles to stimulate growth, and iron and zinc maintain hair production. We use Seaweed in our Stage 1 Shampoo and here in this stimulating herbal hair treatment.

You can use it as you would any deep conditioner but – to get the most out of the treatment – focus a bit more on your roots and scalp than before lightly coating the ends.

You can leave it on for 5 minutes before rinsing but its extra lush and deep conditioning if  you can wrap your hair with a warm towel, cling film or a plastic bag and leave it on for half an hour mins (Longer if you prefer).

When rinsing continue to work the applied product into / through your ends as you go.

Gets yours before MIDNIGHT

Day 4: Product of the Day

Today’s PRODUCT OF THE DAY is the Intense Moisture Masque!
Castor Oil has natural antibacterial and antifungal properties, is high in vitamin E, proteins and fatty acids (Omega 6 and 9) which can penetrate the hair follicles. This moisture mask combines organic Castor, Coconut and Avocado oil to replenish thirsty hair.
Over a period of around 6 months, I tweaked and tested this thicker, more intense conditioner on natural, relaxed hair and microlocs; and since launching in September 2017, it has become one of our best sellers. The product has great slip and melts into curls and locs, rinsing clean without any grey residue.
The key to it’s use is using LESS than you think. If the product is sitting in a white creamy pile on top of your hair – it’s not penetrating anymore (i.e. your hair is saturated) and applying more product means the extra product will just end up down the drain when you rinse it away.

Kids Hair – Using Nature to Deep Condition

It was really warm and sunny this half term  so I decided to use nature to make deep conditioning fun for my 6 year old.

We got the sprinklers out and she jumped into her swimming costume.

After splashing about for a while, I separated her hair into 4 sections and shampooed her hair with Stage 2 Hydrating Hibiscus Shampoo.

I then applied the Triple Whipped Intense Conditioner liberally to her ends and worked it through each section, gently detangling with my fingers until her entire head was completed. I really like this conditioner because it’s blended with organic Castor oil, Coconut Oil and Avocado oil that work together to soften the hair and the combination makes detangling so easy for us.

Finger detangling has been working for us in terms of length retention and reducing breakage because using my fingers gently and patiently helps prevent ripping and tearing.  I’ve also found that using my fingers to fan through the tangles at the ends (using a similar motion as to that of playing a harp) leaves her with fewer split and uneven ends.

I left the conditioner in her hair while she jumped on the trampoline and chased butterflies, the heat from the sun helps the conditioner better penetrate her hair strands.  The photo mosaic below shows the conditioner immediately after application (top two) versus after half hour in the sun (bottom two).

When I had rinsed out the conditioner, I found her hair felt moisturised – like I could literally feel it in her hair – which meant that I didn’t need to apply loads of butters or treatments afterwards.

I simply applied a light coating of our Cocomonoi Joy oil to seal in the moisture before the sun dried it out too much, and I began banding her hair for the week ahead.

Stay tuned and I’ll show you the final result .
